Awards
The Georgia Society of Professional Engineers
(GSPE) was formed in 1944 and currently has 1100
members. GSPE’s membership is comprised of
engineering professionals in all disciplines of
engineering and has chapters statewide. Its core
objectives include the protection of the public
through professional registration and adherence to
the Code of Ethics, supporting education and
training for engineering professionals, monitoring
and influencing engineering legislation,
recognizing engineering achievement, advancing the
public image of engineers, and maintaining member
awareness of issues affecting engineers. Its many
programs include the Professional Engineer
Recognition Reception, a legislative forum,
MATHCOUNTS, E-Week, and Engineer of the Year
awards.
GSPE honors engineers with the annual Engineer of
the Year Award. There is an overall EOY award,
and EOY awards in construction, education,
government, industry, and private practice.
There is also A Young Engineer of the Year Award
and the Chapter of the Year Award.

Scholarships
GSPE has three scholarships available to students
of engineering at Georgia colleges and
universities. Scholarships are administered
through the
Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF).

GSPE Scholarship Fund
Endowment
The GSPE Scholarship Fund Endowment was created in
2007. It is available to students engaged in
engineering and engineering technology programs,
in any discipline, at colleges and universities
in the state of Georgia.
C.B. and Olive Gambrell
Scholarship Fund
Dr. C.B. Gambrell, Jr. P.E. is the Dean Emerius of
the School of Engineering at Mercer University in
Macon, Georgia where he was the founding Dean in
1985. From employing the staff and formulating the
academic programs to designing their laboratories
and recruiting the students, He inspired
excellence in both the academic and engineering
professions. During the same time period prior to
1995, he also served as the Director of the Mercer
Engineering Research Center. Dr. Gambrell served
on the faculty of several universities, holds five
advanced degrees, is a registered engineering in
four states and has served three Secretaries of
the U.S. Army as Scientific Consultant. C.B.
served as GSPE President 1994-95, is a Fellow of
the Accreditation Board for Engineering and
Technology, and a prolific writer.
Doris Lavoie Memorial
Scholarship – GSPE Auxiliary Fund
The late Mrs. Doris Lavoie, wife of Mr. George
Lavoie, PE, was an active leader in the GSPE
Auxiliary until her death in 1984. She was
President of the Sandy Springs Auxiliary in
1981-82, the Georgia State Auxiliary President in
1975-76 and Southeastern Region Chairperson in
1976-77. Mrs. Lavoie led the ladies of the
auxiliary as they diligently raised the money that
became the GSPE Auxiliary Fund that now carries
her name. This is the tenth Doris Lavoie Memorial
Scholarship funded and awarded by the GSPE
Auxiliary. The Auxiliary’s Treasurer is Mrs. Janet
Sights and its scholarship representative is Mrs.
Sarah Duwell. |
